Wow, that was a close one!

I woke up at 5am to make it to my 8am flight from Paris to Budapest. Plenty of time, right? I sure thought so. Until I got to Gard d’Nord station, where I had to transfer from the metro to an RER train to take me the rest of the way to the airport just outside the city. Somehow none of the ticket windows were opened, the automated ticket machines accepted coins only, and there were no change machines anywhere to be found! I spent literally half an hour running around that retarded place trying to buy a simple train ticket before I ended up having to get in a long line on the complete opposite end of the station just to break a 10 euro note.

By the time I boarded the train I was sure I’d miss my flight. Unless everything went absolutely perfect, and there was no line at checkin OR security, and I managed to get my bag below the weight limit on the first try, there just weren’t enough minutes left.

…or unless the flight was delayed by 3 hours!

The Gods were watching over me today 🙂

See you all in Budapest.

  1. You should have just boarded the train and played “stupid tourist” and asked if you could pay for the ticket there.

  2. Nice luck! I would have taken Peder’s suggestion though…..stupid tourist works soooo well sometimes

  3. They have ticket-activated turnstiles, kind of like in Japan – I would’ve actually had to jump over (with my massive backpack on, in front of a huge crowd), and then when i got to the destination it might’ve been a problem too…
