The next morning Belgrade felt like a completely different city. The clouds had lifted, and for the first time in nearly a week the sky was a beautiful blue. Despite having been out partying until dawn, this was not an opportunity I intended to miss – so by 11am I was out the door and on my way.

Unfortunately Peder needed a bit more time to recover, so before leaving we agreed that I’d return by 5pm so we could grab a quick dinner before our final night on the town.

Until then, my solo destination would be a trip to Ada Ciganlija.

My God, I could not have designed a more perfect summertime hangout.

As Peder and I cleaned up the apartment and prepped ourselves for our one and only Saturday night in Belgrade, we vowed that we would not let it end early. Unlike Friday, we’d both had ample sleep – and with a clear weather forecast, experimenting with multiple destinations would surely prove easier than in Friday’s pouring rain.

Our first stop: Freestyler, the #1 splav on my list.

By the time I finally made it home from my first ever Belgrade Splav experience, it was somewhere around 7am. With only a few hours until I had to meet the owner of the private apartment Peder and I had reserved for the weekend, I set my alarm for 9:45, took a quick “nap,” threw on my backpack, and rushed across town.

I arrived 10 minutes late, still intoxicated from the endless bottles of free wine the night before. I really hope she didn’t notice.

The apartment was everything I could’ve wished for – spacious, comfortable, well-furnished, and fantastically located: just one block from Silicon Valley and right across the street from a huge supermarket. It had free laundry, internet, and even a hi-fi soundsystem – several bonuses I certainly wasn’t expecting.

My last day alone on this trip has finally arrived. It’s Thursday, and Peder will be flying in tomorrow from Norway. Should I kill just one more rainy day, taking it easy until our first big weekend out in Belgrade?

Nah.

Because Manga Hostel was so devoid of guests, after a bit of deliberation I concluded it’d be best to checkout one day early and try my luck elsewhere. I shot off emails to a few of the other highly-rated hostels to gauge which might be the busiest.
