This is the long-overdue continuation of the post “Shopping in Tokyo,” from 07/10/2007.

The morning after our big shopping spree in Shibuya, Felicia and I arose bright and early to ensure that she’d arrive at Narita Airport with ample time to catch her long flight to India. I once again found myself standing alone amidst the chaos and confusion of Tokyo.

First things first. Although I’d come toting my usual oversized backpacker’s backpack, for once I wouldn’t have to worry about breaking it down and cramming it into several small coin lockers at the JR station – I checked it with a hotel bellboy and started sending out e-mails. Continue reading »

Today, I am Raymond K. Hessel. For at long last I am freeeee!

It felt so wonderful to be able go to bed anytime I want without constantly stressing, “Will I be rested enough by 9:30am tomorrow morning?” Or to be able to pick up my groceries at 業務スーパー without speeding across town during the final seconds before closing at 8pm. Freedom of schedule is mine. At long last.

Time for a celebration in Osaka?

Remember my new buddy Peder? He’s been having such a great time in Japan that he decided at the last minute to cancel his ticket back to Norway and stay in Kyoto until Christmas. He’ll be moving into his own apartment across town in just a couple days. A like-minded wingman to liven up the nightlife a bit? Sounds like a fine proposition to me!

I’ve been to quite a few Halloween parties in my day, and even though I normally just throw together some half-assed costume at the very last minute they always turn out to be great fun. But nothing like this last Halloween in Japan.
