WP 2.5

June 26, 2008 in USA

I just upgraded this blog to Wordpress 2.5. It was a fairly major upgrade that required me to change my homebrew code in a number of places, so it’s possible that something broke here or there.

If you find anything, please let me know :)

There is a small error, I’m not sure if it is because of WP 2.5 or just a rendering bug in Safari, but the text in the recent comments section overlaps. That is the post title, author, and date are jumbled all together. Nothing major of course.

Weird. Thanx for the tip - I’ll check it out when I have access to Safari, but I suspect it is a browser bug. Looks fine in IE6, 7, FF3, and Opera 9 :)

the latest word press updates all seem to break stuff on my blog, and my blog is pretty basic…..I can’t imagine how bad it must be on yours

Actually 2.5 is a major improvement in quite a few ways - but yea, they did restructure a bunch of code so a lot of plugins no longer work.

On the plus side, it includes a lot of stuff that I was using hacks to accomplish - gravatars, for instance. It also has built-in galleries so *eventually* (i.e. when I’m done with the software I’m working on with Peder) I’d like to phase out the Gallery CMS I’m using entirely. It’s quite heavy and blows up my database size…and would be nice have everything managed by WP alone :)

I use(d) a Flickr pro account with WP and a Flickr plugin, works fine and goes easy on your webspace.

Yeah - I prefer having everything stored on my local server though, rather than bringing resources in from a variety of sources. Keep it all centralized and organized rather than having different accounts here and there. That’s one of the reasons I created this site originally :)
